Whole Person Fitness; A collage

If a picture says 1,000 words, you’re looking at it. Here’s a collage of what makes up my fitness and health experience. It encapsulates the concept of my whole person approach to coaching. Read on to learn more…

Training with me is a lot more than me barking rep counts and exercise orders at you.

“Well that's what I want though.” That's all good! We can cut to the chase with your programming if you prefer! However, we can address other lifestyle factors that will make long lasting effects on your goals and life even after we part our ways. Also, you decide what you want to work on, and together we can decide on how to make that happen.

For example, in order to really have those big goals like gaining 5lbs of muscle and losing 5lbs of fat, balancing hormones, running a marathon, or maintaining a pain free body, it takes not only hours of exercise, but adaptations to your schedule, support from family and peers, enjoying and finding good available foods, and discovering exercises you love. Also, most importantly, clearing aside roadblocks getting in between you and your goal.

We start small and end up with big, long lasting results. “Life lived” satisfaction.

You probably already know large actions like sleep make a massive impact on your physical recovery, food choices, and your mental stamina (1). However, many of you know that and sometimes knowing that makes no difference!

I can relate to this one big time at the height of my career!

Even as a fitness professional, lack of sleep played out in my life when I lived and worked in NYC. I was juggling a profession as an early bird personal trainer, developing my breaking technique and cultural knowledge, and mastering my circular strength training instruction. Oh yeah, and I was on strict diets, did at least one moderate-high intensity workout a day, was dating around, and was living in fight or flight mode most of the time . My over-commitment and need for rest was way out of balance. I found myself emotionally and physically exhausted most days.

Over time this added up!

After 4 years of this, I found myself so burned out by neglecting my basic needs. I shifted my energy into high performance life coaching. To be honest, while I learned and helped out a lot, I was just putting all my energy into something else instead of caring for my basic needs.

I eventually gave up.

I scaled back my work hours and de-prioritized exercise. This went on for a couple of years! And even while I was establishing a new base of companionship with someone who is now my husband, I was still lacking fundamental care for my personal needs.

It was a global catastrophe that finally influenced my positive shift!

It wasn’t until the pandemic where I had a tremendous feeling of bewilderment and fear that I hit rock bottom. I finally helped myself, well to be honest my husband and friends helped me before I even could. I eventually started getting into a routine of eating well again, sleeping, taking care of my mental health, and exercising. Now, I have a foundation and I know how to and when to feel my best. Sure, sometimes my routine is out of sorts, or I choose to say “Fuck-it” (more on this in my blog Got the Fuck-it’s?), but overall there is a pretty sweet selection of activities, food, exercises, and people that make me, ME!

If your goal happens to be getting more sleep, small actions like dimming the lights, keeping your cell phone outside your bedroom, and aiming to turn off your show 30 min-1 hour before bedtime can help you fall asleep and stay asleep. You also might need to get your family or roommates on board too since change does not happen in isolation. Some of these little things add up!

My experience with strict dieting and over-commitment has developed into a life more full of saying no and choosing activities, food, and people that fill me up. Whatever you desire and discover for yourself will be unique to you. I still have my challenges, however I feel more confidence, joy, and strength along the way.
